Interview Tip

Alyssa Morse - Head of Sales Dev - Convoso
From Research Assistant to Account Executive to SDR Leader, Alyssa Morse has always been dialed in when it comes to research. This plays into what she looks for in candidates, let's take a look.

Interview Questions

2 Questions She Asks In Interviews:
1. What do you know about our company?
2. What does grit mean to you? How have you implemented it before (job or life)?

What she looks for in answers:

1. What do you know about our company?
-> Did they do research or just click easy apply on LinkedIn
-> What do we do? Our competitors? Our space? How do we stand out?
-> This indicates - do they actually want the job / did they put time into this?
-> There's a difference between clear and concise vs. rambling. Good looks like:
--> "Based on my research, you do XYZ. You're the leader in the space and your competitors are ABC. You stand out because of DEF and this is actually why I want to work here."

2. What does grit mean to you? How have you implemented it before (job or life)?
-> This question pertains to Sales as a long term career
-> If you can do this in life, persist despite adversity, you have the skills for Sales
-> Prospects/customers are mean/rude, you need to be able to keep going
-> I make sure candidates understand what it means (I don't subtract points if they don't)
-> In their example, I listen to whether or not they tried something for a long time, there were trials and tribulations, they found a solution there after

Advice:

"I'm big on people that message me on LinkedIn. Any time I get a direct message, they automatically get put to the top. I forward them to the recruiter and call them first. They did the job before they had it. Do the research, figure out the hiring manager and reach out. Do it 2 or 3 times though (like a true SDR).
