Talking About Your Last Company In An Interview

interviews Jul 18, 2023

Wild that I have to say this, but, don’t talk $#^! about your last company in an interview.

Just don't do it.

How does saying that in an interview help you?

I’m not saying what your previous employer did was right.

I’m not saying don’t talk about it at all.

I’m pleading with you, don’t put an interviewer in an awkward position.

Instead of you talking about running away from something, talk about you running toward something.

When you get asked, “Tell me why you left X” or “If everything was so good, why change”

Talk about something new you want to accomplish.

- New skills you want to acquire.

- New industries you want to work with.

- New people you want to work with.

- New technology you want to work with.

The list goes on.

Remember: “I’m excited for a new opportunity” not, “I couldn’t wait to leave the last place”
