One Page Or Two? What's the Best Resume Format?
Dec 05, 2023
Should your resume be one page or two pages?
I asked LinkedIn, here are the results:
294 people said TWO
198 people said one
Here are some of the job titles of people who said TWO:
Co-Founder
SVP of Talent Acquisition
VP of Sales
VP, Global Sales Development
Head of Executive Search
Director of Demand Generation
Director of Operations
Director of Customer Success
I'll be honest, I was surprised by this initially. BUT, the commentary helped me realize a few things.
1. It doesn't matter if you're an Exec or not. If you have relevant experience that carries onto a second page, that's okay.
2. It's a MAJOR plus to list your metrics that also include your rank within your team (if possible, not all roles or situations allow for this).
3. Co-Founder Pete Larkin does in person interviews and likes it when people bring a copy of their physical resume :)
Here are some of the comments from the poll:
"Two pages is totally acceptable, especially when you are a senior level professional. It also depends on the layouts of resumes & content. If it's 2-pages but there's a lot of wasted space because you went with a two columned, colorful layout, then that's not as effective, IMO! " - Josie Romero-Pala, Sr. TA Sourcer
"1-2 pages work as long as all of the content is concise and relevant to the role. Some professionals will have enough relevant experience to justify two pages. Never have more than 2 though." - Yuji Higashi, Co-Founder
"Single if possible. Front back is okay. No staples..... Clean and concise layout with quantitative displays of success and impact on revenue is what I care about on resumes." - Pete Larkin
