How You're Interviewed
Jun 13, 2023
The way that your interview will happen is a reflection of what's to come.
Pay attention to the qualities you're being evaluated on.
Pay attention to how you're being evaluated.
Want a real life example?
Joshua Finly, Manager of Sales Development at Telgorithm (he's hiring) looks for the 3 Cs.
Competitiveness. Curiosity. Coachability. Here's what he looks for in each.
Competitiveness
What he asks to evaluate this, "On a scale of 1-10 (10 being incredibly competitive), how competitive are you?"
Anything below a 7 is a pass for him.
He'll follow up by asking for an example of when you're a 10.
Then he'll ask a follow up for another example to keep you on your toes.
The key here is to show you're competitive but still a team player.
Sales is a team sport. It's like boxing, every boxer has a team in their corner.
Curiosity
What he asks to evaluate this:
When was the last time you received feedback from your Manager?
What was the feedback and how did you implement it?
When was the last time you asked for feedback from your Manager?
Responses here give him a solid understanding of how the relationship will work.
Coachability
What he does to evaluate this - an impromptu role play.
He's not expecting someone to ace this.
He's looking for enthusiasm, confidence and for the candidate to not shut down. After the role play, he'll collaborate with the candidate on what went well and provide feedback.
They'll do it again and look to see if the candidate can implement the feedback.
Content and format are critical components of an engaging interview all around.
