Hiring For A Manager

interview process manager Apr 18, 2023

Hiring for a Manager can be difficult.

It depends on the team, function, company size, industry, funding round, etc.

What can make this easier? Having a conceptual framework to lean on.

Bradley Liou (built teams at 5 companies), uses the 3 Cs.

Competency, Culture and Chemistry.

Here's a breakdown of what's being evaluated in each of these.

Competency
- What operational skill set do they bring
- How do they organize and facilitate initiatives
- What do they do to ensure their team is succeeding
- What happens when that doesn't work
- How do they measure/manage low performance
- How many teams have they built and to what size

Culture
- How did they build their team
- How many people did they get promoted
- Can they explain the career pathing they created
- What do other leaders have to say about them
- What do other teams say about their collaboration
- What do reps say about them

Chemistry
- How do they run meetings
- What would our working relationship be like

Detailed but concise answers regarding all of these is the key.

Another tip next week but until then, here's a list of places hiring by role.
