Asking for Intros
Mar 21, 2023
Last week we talked about the importance of referrals.
But what if you don't know anyone at the company you want to get referred into?
What if you only have a connection who knows someone at the company?
Here's what you do:
1. Find the person you want an intro to
2. See who you share a connection with
3. Reach out to your connection and ask if they'd be willing make an intro
-> Note that you'll write an email they can forward along
--> Make it easy for them, all they need to do is hit forward / add a comment
This takes away awkwardness AND makes it easy for everyone.
Example intro template
Subject line: Potential Introduction to (Potential Connection) re: Job Title
Email body:
Hey Friend/Connection,
Thank you for helping me connect with Potential Connection.
As we discussed, I'm interested in the Job Title role at Company Name. I've spent # years working with customers to achieve ABC. Here's a link to my LinkedIn for more information on how I've supported growth throughout my time.
I would love to connect with Y because he/she is building a team at Company Name to support future growth of enter company mission here. I'm interested to learn more about their vision for the team and see if it makes sense to continue the conversation.
Thanks for being willing to pass this along, I hope to hear back!
All the best,
Your Name
