Interview Tip - Asking About Culture

Stop asking, "What's the culture like at Company X?" during an interview.
Culture is important but...
What does that even mean? What kind of answer are you expecting?
Be more specific about what you're after when asking that question.
Want to know how the team works with each other (🫖)? Ask about it.
Want to know your prospective manager's work style (🫖)? Ask about it.
Think about the answer you're looking for before you ask the question.
Here's a list of 7 questions you can use tomorrow to understand the "culture":
- Can you walk me through what performance reviews look like at X?
- How are decisions made when there's a disagreement and stakes are high?
- How does leadership invest in your career development?
- How often does the team Slack/email on the weekend or after hours?
- Would you say your manager calls you too much or not enough? Why?
- When you request PTO, how does your manager respond?
- What are some ways the company celebrates success?
